How Keyword Targeting Seduces More Clicks

how to use keyword targeting

If you’ve ever explored Pornhub’s Insights page, you’ve likely seen the fascinating list of popular search terms from users around the world. On the TrafficJunky advertising platform, we call those search terms keywords —and they’re the secret sauce to smarter ad targeting! With Keyword Targeting, your campaign appears right when users are searching for exactly what gets them off, putting your ads front and center when they’re deep in the mood and ready to indulge. 🔥

Not like Google: How to effectively target search terms

Contrary to what you might think, the keywords selected should not be equivalent to something you would search for on Google. Selecting these types of keywords will prevent your campaign from receiving any traffic whatsoever since they are not common search terms.

See what happens when we type in a popular search term in our Select Keyword bar? TrafficJunky instantly populates a list of suitable keywords and helps you determine their relevance and the type of volume you should expect.

Exact and broad match keywords

When including keywords, you have the two options:

Exact Match is exactly what it sounds like! Your ads will target users who make searches that are exact matches for the keywords you target. For example, if you exact match target “milf” you campaign will target users who search “milf”.

Broad match is the more flexible targeting option, reaching users who make searches that are variations, synonyms, or most relevant misspellings for your target keyword. For example, if your broad match target “red heels” your ads can show for searches like “red heels model”, “footwear”, “heels”, etc.

How to use Keyword Targeting in your campaigns

  1. In Step 1 of campaign creation, under Targeting Options, toggle keyword targeting ON.
  2. Include and exclude your chosen keywords.
  3. To include keywords: input them into the Search box, choose up to 30 keywords, and decide whether you want to broad or exact match them. To exclude keywords: input them into the Search box and choose up to 20 keywords.

The Keyword Targeting Playbook:

  • Broad match keywords open a world of opportunities by expanding the reach of your campaigns, drive traffic to your ads, and help you uncover new keyword opportunities.
  • Refine and optimize your list of targeted keywords by implementing exact matches. Monitor your search terms report to see which keywords are driving key performance metrics such as clicks, impressions, CTR, CPC, quality score, conversions, and CTA. Implement exact match targeting to focus in on these high value search terms.
  • Excluding keywords enhances the relevancy of your ads and preserves ad spend by blocking irrelevant keywords.
